Meow has been available on Audible for a few weeks now and it's different from my usual style of narration. It is the first book in the Catnip Assassins Series and is a great introduction to Kat and her band of misfits. Because my of natural, warm and youthful tone, I knew to match the audition specs I'd have to embody a woman who has endured a lot and who has done morally questionable things. Hardening my voice, giving it a slight growl and making myself sound just a bit older, and voila, we have Kat! It's quite an amazing exercise, trying to portray someone who is a merciless assassin and isn't bothered by things that most people would be bothered by...Ahem, like a head in her kitchen's fridge. Still, she is funny and there is a soft side to her.

I also liked the voice that I had chosen to narrate with for her because it is still easy to listen to while managing to sound rougher and grittier...sometimes, occasionally, she even sounds sexy! Skye MacKinnon's writing certainly made bringing Kat to life pretty easy because as soon as I finished reading the book, I knew who this character was.

A hardened, independent woman who doesn't want to ever be seen as weak. Only as someone who should be respected, even if that means by gaining respect using fear. She has layers and a very thick wall to get through. That has to be one of the hardest things to do as Kat. Finding that balance of "I don't give a fudge!" and "Okay, I care a little bit".

For Lily, I wanted to use my regular voice as it is a nice break from Kat's and everyone else's. Despite her being quite seductive, she always had a youthful and playful energy about her through the book, and a certain warmth...She cares about her friends, even though she's just as wicked.

Bethany was also surprisingly easy. Instantly, I thought she was more exotic due to her fascination with poisons. Also, if you've listened to my other audiobooks, her accent is one that I have practiced well and it's clearly one of my favorite's to do.

Benjamin had Harley Quinn energy to me from the get go! He is cute, funny, and quite quirky...making him stick out quite a bit in this band of misfits. He's definitely kind of whacko, but I find it very endearing! So I gave him a fun New Yorka accent and a youthful tone.

Lennox's voice was a tough one. I tried to channel some Geralt with his performance due to what Skye suggested for his tone and such. He's someone who has been through A LOT...a very hard time and life. Plus he seems more like the quiet type aaaand he's kind of an emotionless assassin who doesn't have time for emotions to get in the way! Well, so he thinks hehe.

Anywho, I hope you all consider checking out Meow and the rest of the catnip assassins as they come out! Skye is so talented and I definitely recommend checking out the rest of her books. Thank you. :)

Hello everyone! I hope you're all staying safe during this pandemic. I know this is a tough time for everyone but it will get better and when this tide finally washes away, it will take many of our woes with it. Stay strong! I wanted to take time to put out there what I am currently up to and what audiobooks you should be expecting in the coming months. Let's chat about it!

What's coming...

So the next audiobook in the Catnip Assassins series has finished being recorded and is now being edited as I write this blog-post. It is an awesome continuation of Meow and I really can't wait to share Kat's further development.

My favorite part about narrating this series is the character herself. She isn't perfect but she's still confident. She's strong and lethal, but there is a soft side to her too. Narrating as her is a really cool experience because she is so complex. I mean, who wouldn't want to narrate as a tough, sarcastic assassin? Anyways, keep an eye out for this book

The next audiobook that is hopefully on it's way to retail soon is a Sleepy Beauty retelling that tells the tale of Briar Rose's (Sleeping Beauty) daughter, Azia.

I am extremely excited for this book to come out and even more excited to continue. It's set in a fantasy world, it has dragons, it's going to have so much more! I love narrating as strong young women who are still trying to figure things out for themselves, but they still hold a certain confidence about who they are and what they want. Azia is a tough cookie and there is a lot of mystery surrounding her and I can't wait for you to join me in learning more about her and what she will become.

Keep an eye out for this one!

What's being worked on next...

I am extremely excited to dive in deeper with narration in this particular book. A Question of Faith is a powerful tale about a character who is part of something occult which goes against her religion, forcing her to be conflicted with who she is and what she believes in. I love this because I'm very much into witchcraft and believe one can be into witchcraft and psychic-related beliefs while also following a faith that may or may not be against it. It's an amazing thing to think about and look, your girl loves anything and everything magic! Make sure you click the image to get an idea of the book, you won't regret it.

This book has a special place in my heart and I really must finish it, despite how challenging it is to get through. Let me elaborate... This book is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion but it's also very hard to get through due to how much I can relate to it. Sara is going through an extraordinarily rough time in her life and is fighting a dark, deep depression. She's also a teen. Reading this really hit me in the feels because I was once in her situation. Not exactly the same, but I know how poisonous and destructive the depression she fights in this book can be.

As you all know, if you're familiar with my work, I am a voice-actor and a very immersive/engaging narrator who has no problem showing the emotions the characters feel in their situations. Sara's has been quite a battle narrating because admittedly, I've found myself crying for her and my past self quite a lot. Even crying at the idea of all the teenagers and younger who are fighting this now, by themselves, and alone. I imagine it is especially bad because of the pandemic. However, this book is not entirely depressing, and I think everyone will come out of reading it/listening to it with hope.

I think this might be one of my strongest narrations yet because of how emotional this is and how I wanted to make it very clear, that Sara is not okay, that this isn't something she can just get over. That anyone who suffers like she does, shouldn't be ignored. Mental Health needs to be taken much more seriously and I want to make sure I do my small part to make that statement as a performer.

That's it for now everyone! Please keep an eye out for all of these books and back to work I go. Stay magical and blessed be.

In 2018, when I started taking voice-acting a lot more seriously, I auditioned pretty hard for every role Frostburn put out there. My first role with them was Venus (the last voice at the end), but my favorite role was Shortfuse (beginning voice). It was wild getting to voice this many characters for one game and I loved it. It tested me in numerous ways, showing me what my range is capable of.

For example, I never really thought I could pull off a masculine voice. But I focused hard and embodied that of an angry, angsty teenager who loved explosives. Then, voila! All in all, I am so happy to have been part of Heroes of Newerth in my own way. I've been very focused on audiobooks this year so far, but I'm definitely going to try and get some more character work done!

Hope you all enjoy this three minute video of the characters I've voiced.
